Dallas E. Stiles' Obituary
Dallas E. Stiles passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023.
He was born on his grandfather’s farm in Dilltown, PA on July 1, 1928. He grew during the Great Depression in the coal field towns near Johnstown, PA. At 17, he graduated high school and enlisted in the US Navy. He served on active duty from 1945-1947 and was in the Naval Reserves from 1947-1950. He was recalled to active duty at the start of the Korean War in 1950, just weeks after marrying Shirley Mae Coulter. Shirley and Dallas’s marriage would last almost 60 years until Shirley passed away in 2009.
Dallas used the GI Bill and worked in the steel mills to put himself through college earning his bachelor’s degree in business at the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, Dallas accepted an accounting position at Firestone Tire, in Akron. After joining Firestone, he passed the CPA exam and was in the first MBA graduating class at Kent State University. He would work his entire career…more than 40 years…at Firestone rising to a corporate officer as an Assistant Treasurer and Director of Taxes.
Dallas loved baseball, reading, and was a passionate investor. Dallas also loved to travel and for many years the annual family vacation involved packing up the station wagon, hooking up the pop-up camper, and heading out. They camped in 48 states and most of the Canadian Provinces on these trips. He also was an accomplished painter.
He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason, a member of American Legion Post 202, and a member of Grandview United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls for several decades. He was awarded the World War II, Korean War, and Cold War service ribbons among others during his Naval service.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mabel, his wife of almost 60 years Shirley (Coulter) and his brothers Walter and Jerry.
He is survived by his four children Sheri (John) Zakarowsky, Darla (Gary) Stiles Neumann, Cathy (Michael) Javaras, and Dallas Jr (Cathy) as well as grandchildren Matthew (Alicia) Javaras, John Zakarowsky, Ashley (Mark) Lapikas, Carrie (Justin) Bielinski, Dallas (Kayla) Stiles, Dylan Stiles and seven great grandchildren.
VISITATION will be held on Tuesday, September 12th from 10am – 12pm at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A FUNERAL SERVICE will begin, on the same day, at 12pm. Interment will take place at Hope Memorial Gardens, Hinckley.
