Clifford Keith Swartz's Obituary
Clifford Keith Swartz, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025. Born and raised on a farm in South Dakota alongside his two brothers, Cliff learned the values of hard work and resilience early in life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Cliff was the beloved husband of Irene Swartz, whom he met on a blind date more than 65 years ago—a chance meeting that led to a lifelong partnership. While raising two young children, Cliff pursued a degree in Physics at South Dakota State University, funding his education through football and construction work. After earning his degree, Cliff and his growing family relocated to Cleveland, where he dedicated his professional life to advancing solar cell technology through his work at NASA. A devoted father to five sons, Cliff was deeply involved in their lives, coaching them in baseball, football, and track & field.
In his free time, Cliff enjoyed golfing, bowling, and reading. Known for his independence and quiet pride, he lived on his own until his passing.
Cliff is survived by his loving children: Marty (Laura) Swartz, Jay (Yvonne) Swartz, Brent (Melinda Lovern) Swartz, Troy (Phyllis) Swartz, and Joel Swartz; cherished grandchildren: Drew, Jamie, Carolyn, Elaine, Jayson, Cody, Stephanie, Nadya, Grigs, Mikhail, Tristan, Kaela, Jonah, Keith, and Sabryn; and nine great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
