Deacon Charles R. "Pete" Moore's Obituary
Charles R. “Pete” Moore, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025 in Round Rock, TX.
He was born on June 3, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to his late parents, Garrett and Mary Moore. He grew up in Sandusky, Ohio with his two siblings, Nora Jeanne Aust and Devera Stevenson (both now deceased). This is where he acquired the nickname “Pete.”
Pete attended St. Mary’s elementary and high schools in Sandusky and graduated in 1953.
He attended the University of Detroit, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1958 and a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1965. He met his future wife, Jacqueline (nee) Van Dam at U of D and they were married on October 4, 1958.
In 1992 Pete answered the call to ministry, was accepted as a candidate to the Permanent Diaconate program in Cleveland and began his formation as a deacon.
In 1993 Pete took a new position as President of the Mississippi Valley Coal Council in New Orleans. He transferred to the diaconate program in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and was ordained as a deacon by Archbishop Francis Schulte in the St. Louis Cathedral on May 11, 1996 for service in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He was assigned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Belle Chasse, LA where he served for three years.
In 1999 Pete and Jackie moved back to Ohio and Pete was accepted for service in the Diocese of Cleveland. He was assigned to St. Joseph Parish in Strongsville, where he served for 21 years. Pete retired as a deacon in July of 2021. During his 29 years as a deacon, Pete touched many lives with his deep faith through his homilies, officiating at weddings, funerals, baptisms, counseling and RCIA talks. He was truly a remarkable man who gave of himself to help others at all times.
Pete is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jacqueline, and their six children: Cheryl (Simon) Cobbin of Roseville, CA; Susan (Joel) Brashear of Round Rock, TX; Diane (Steve) Engler of Lompoc, CA; David of Tampa, FL; Janet (Tom) Brashear of Pittsburg, TX; Gregory (Melissa) of Sagamore Hills, OH and also 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with 2 more expected before year’s end.
Vespers will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 3PM with visitation to follow until 7PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 12700 Pearl Road, Strongsville OH 44136. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 11AM with visitation one hour prior to mass. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
