Charles F. Hawk's Obituary
Charles F. Hawk, 81, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019. Beloved husband of Eva Myra Hawk for 62 years, loving father to sons Charles B. (Debbie), Robert (Diane) and Richard (Kristene) and proud grandfather to Charles F., Megan Hawk-Knerr (Mitchell), Preston, Haley, Cooper, LeAnne and Parker. Survived by brother Gerald (Geraldine), sister Linda (Robert) Allwood and brother, Dale (Cathy). Charles often mentioned how proud and blessed he felt with his family, his seven grandchildren, friends and co-workers. Charles was preceded in death by parents, Charles B. and Thelma Hawk, brothers Pat Hawk and Donald Hawk.
Charles was born in Cleveland and was a lifelong Strongsville resident, graduating from Strongsville High School in 1955. He played football in high school and received a football scholarship to Kent State University and followed his coach to play football at North Dakota State University. While in college, he met Eva Myra and they married in 1957. Charles started a career in insurance in Fargo, ND. They returned to Ohio, where Charles joined the Strongsville Police Department in 1959 as a patrolman. In his early years, he wore many hats to support his growing family. Charles joined Allstate Insurance Company where he worked as a claim’s adjuster and then Government and Community Relations Manager, retiring after 31 years. He then joined Westfield Insurance and worked in Government Relations post-retirement from 2002-2012.
Charles was the Ward 3 councilman in Strongsville from 1980 through 1987. For 24 years, he served as a member of the Strongsville Civil Service Commission and also served on the Berea Municipal Court Jury Commission. Charles loved sports and was inducted into the Strongsville Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a long-time member of the Strongsville City Club and a 32nd degree Mason. Charles was an avid Notre Dame University football fan and believed in playing “like a champion” every day.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 23 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Jardine’s Funeral Home, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville with a Funeral Service on Thursday, January 24 at 10AM at Strongsville United Methodist Church, 13500 Royalton Road.
