Dr. Chandravadan D. Haria's Obituary
Dr Chandravadan D. Haria age 79, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021.
Beloved husband to Hansa, and inspiring father of Seema and Rahul. Cherished brother of Mulchand Haria and Kusum Shah. Proud grandfather of Ellora, Persis, Tenzin, Nyle & Sophia.
A graduate of Grant Medical College in India, Dr. Haria served with distinction as an Ear Nose & Throat Physician at University Hospitals Cleveland, was a CWRU Assistant Professor of Surgery, and Chief of Otolaryngology at MetroHealth. He was a published author of multiple medical papers and a Past President of the Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio.
A native of Kutch, India, Dr. Haria championed many causes in the region of his birth, including pioneering clean drinking water initiatives, organic farming, growing education opportunities for underprivileged children through the Bidada Education Foundation and improving healthcare resources and care for the people of Kutch. He was instrumental in establishing a yearly medical camp that grew to include volunteers from all over the world. During the aftermath of the earthquake in 2001, he developed mobile efforts to reach remote areas. He inherited his passion for Medicine from his father, a renowned doctor and activist for Indian independence. He was driven by an innate desire to help and serve the underserved.
Dr. Haria was a proud American who believed passionately in giving back to his community. A dedicated philanthropist, Dr. Haria founded endowments for organizations that support healthcare and education, such as the Cleveland Sight Center and the Academic Excellence Achievement Award for graduating seniors. In his capacity as President of the Federation of India Community Associations, he was influential in advocating for the cultural gardens of Cleveland and was a bridge that fostered the bond between Indian and American cultures. He was not only an organizational leader, but an avid participant in cultural activities as well, such as the national garba raas dance competitions.
Ingenious, altruistic, spirited, and fun-loving, Dr. Chandravadan D. Haria fondly known as Dinu, Chandu and Chanda will forever be in our hearts!
