Bruce Unger's Obituary
Bruce Wayne Unger, age 75, of Strongsville, was summoned into the loving arms of His Savior on March 6th, 2023.Bruce was born November 23, 1947, to Robert D. and Donnabelle (Farrington) Unger, in Nappanee, Indiana. He graduated from Nappanee High School in 1966 and attended Sams Technical Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana. Leaving school, Bruce returned home to work at Penn Controls in Goshen, Indiana before being drafted to the U.S. Army in 1968. After basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, he was stationed in Karlsruhe, West Germany with the 555 Engineering Company as a SP4 clerk. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He returned home to work at Johnson Controls, (Penn Controls) for 28 years.
On September 25, 1970, he married Rebecca Mougeotte in Goshen, Indiana. They built a family over the next several years making their primary residence in New Paris, Indiana. There, Bruce became involved in his children’s lives, committing tremendous time to his daughter’s involvement in band and 4-H Saddle Club. With his son, he spent much time in Scouts being an assistant scout master. Bruce was an excellent handyman and took diligent care of his home. He built a barn for his children’s horses and involved his children to help with many projects, instilling “hands on” qualities in them. He enjoyed many hobbies including camping, hunting, fishing, golf, being an active band booster, 4-H, scouts, coffee with friends, snowmobiling, and home projects. Most important to him was spending time with his family. He and his wife traveled as much as possible to visit their grandchildren’ activities such as little league, grade school Grandparents Day and band competitions for 2 of the grandsons. Over the recent years, he has traveled with his daughter to dog shows assisting her. He loved to fish especially with friends, his son and grandkids. He is a member of the American Legion, Berea post, and a supporter of various veteran groups.
He and his wife transplanted to Strongsville Ohio in 1996 due to job opportunities. He most notably drove commercial truck for TKX Logistics until his retirement in 2012. He delivered parts for Federated Auto Parts on a part time basis retiring again 2021.
Bruce leaves behind his wife Becky, two children, Tricia (James) Carmack, New Paris, Indiana and Brent (Beth) Unger, Maryville, TN. 6 grandchildren, Torin Taylor, Trenton (Lilliana)Carmack, Peyton (Megan) Carmack, Zahra Unger, Zeke Unger, and Zaedyn Unger. 4 Great Grandchildren: Avery Carmack, Finley Carmack, Hazel Taylor, and Quill Carmack. His two brothers Blake Unger (Marla), Elkhart, Indiana and Randall (Linda)Richmond, South Bend, Indiana. His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation and Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at Jardine Funeral Home, 15822 Pearl Rd., Strongsville, OH on March 25th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with service starting at 3p.m.
At a later date, a memorial service will be held in Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, Indiana with his final resting place in New Paris Cemetery.
