Blanka E. Weninger's Obituary
BLANKA E. WENINGER
Age 90, fiercely loyal wife, caring mother and grandmother, and proud Austrian-American, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 16. Born Blanka Elizabeth Scherer on May 19, 1924 in Nenzing, Austria, she found her life’s purpose alongside Andrew E. Weninger, Ph.D., (1908-1995), and in forging their path together in the United States after emigrating from war-torn Europe in 1951. She was admired for her grace and charm, artistry as a homemaker, her eager conversation, a generosity often beyond her means, and an enviable ability to stretch dollars to extraordinary lengths. But her greatest satisfaction came as wife, mother, and O’Mama, raising five sons with self-respect, an appreciation for tradition and learning, an unmatched work ethic and determination, and uncommon human decency. Blanka is preceded in death by Andrew, the love of her life and husband of 48 years; by her son, Karl; and her granddaughter’s husband, Jason (Elizabeth). Celebrating her memory are scores of friends and relatives across three continents; and sons Ernst (Dawn), Stephen (Anne), Attila (Patricia), Mark (Julie), and daughter-in-law Susan (Karl); grandchildren Megan (Pete), Christopher, Elizabeth, Kyle, Alicia, Drew, Matthew, Sander, and Ava; and great-grandchildren Elsie and Cora. Her family welcomes visitors from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, at Jardine Funeral Home, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville; and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 16271 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A private interment will take place at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
