Alice McTernan's Obituary
Alice McTernan, 88 (nee Schaller), beloved wife of 63 yrs to Edward Keating McTernan, daughter of the late Wolfgang Carl Schaller and Alice Francais, mother of Edward Keating McTernan Jr, Holly Francais McTernan, and Mark Baccus McTernan, grandmother of Ada Jeannette Baccus McTernan, whom she adored. Alice was a graduate of Hofstra University, social secretary to Mrs Alfred Gywnne Vanderbilt in New York City. She moved to Cleveland in 1957, received a Masters degree at Western Reserve University and taught at Shoregate School. She was a Master Gardener emeritus of Cuyahoga County MG, specializing in the use of culinary herbs. She loved all animals creating wildlife habitat gardens and she especially loved Keeshond dogs, helping with their rescue, her favorite dogs being her own beloved Keeshonds. Alice loved being with friends, planning and attending parties, dancing with Ed. Her interests were many and she loved cooking, travelling, literature, and the arts, especially the Cleveland Orchestra. She spent her life sharing the things she loved and teaching others. She will be dearly missed.
Private service and burial at St Thomas Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to Hospice of the Western Reserve or Keeshond Lovers United or charity of your choice.
