June 17, 1943 - December 21, 2020
Elaine A. Taylor of Strongsville passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the age of 77, with her husband, L. Kenneth Taylor, & her children Matthew (wife Tamera Taylor), and Melanie Taylor (husband Phillip Kerkel) at her side. Elaine was born to the late Joseph Dominic and Helen Bridy in Danville, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Mount Carmel, PA, surrounded by an extended family. She was an active member of her church, playing the organ there every week, and a cheerleader, yearbook editor, and Homecoming Queen at Mount Carmel High School. After high school, Elaine earned a degree in Business and moved to Harrisburg, PA, where she worked in healthcare administration. In 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, L. Kenneth (Ken) Taylor. A few years later, the couple moved to Cleveland and started a family together. Elaine set a strong example for giving back. She believed in giving to her community like she did her own family, and was extremely active in Strongsville. She was President of the Strongsville Education Foundation, President of PTA, and President of the Strongsville Chorale Boosters. She was a long-time member of Strongsville Women’s League, earning their Lifetime Member Award in 2012, and was also a member of the Strongsville Rotary Club. Elaine was always volunteering: delivering for Meals on Wheels, baking cookies or assembling baskets for charity events, helping found a domestic violence program at the hospital, or leading cub scout or girl scout troops. Most importantly, Elaine’s home was always filled with love, laughter, and life. She loved her pets and taking care of the wildlife outside. She loved to cook and entertain: many a game night and cooking club night were enjoyed at her house. She was always at a friend’s side when they needed her, and many of her children’s friends referred to Elaine as their “second mom” as she warmly welcomed everyone into her home. Elaine also leaves behind an extended network of friends and “added” family members who felt the warmth of her love throughout the decades. There will be a private memorial service for immediate family on December 30, 2020, followed by a Celebration of Life for everyone who wishes to celebrate Elaine's life in 2021 once the COVID situation is resolved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Services of Southwest General or a charity of your choice.
