Today's service was beautiful despite being such a sad occasion. I so admire the Catholic Faith and services for the deceased. The Choir is so proud, the Priests so caring and understanding and the whole idea of so many standing up with Debbie, Dave, her parents, uncles and cousins. The message of so many standing with you wasn't lost on me. 13 years ago when I suddenly lost a sister at age 31 And I said how proud and flattered she would be if she saw the hundreds at her funeral service. I remember Debbie and Dave being the first ones there and the comfort they provided. And their unconditional friendship and love for someone that may have met only once or twice.
I think Tyler would have been proud today. I talked to some of his friends from soccer and they spoke of his skill, tenacity and drive to be great. I was one of the shortest in every sport I played and I think Tyler had that chip that he "might come in a small package-but he had a heck of a punch." And it reminded me he liked to race us in 95 degree heat on the beach and he was the only one who the heat didn't get to. Pretty impressive.
His parents definitely raised one amazingly tough kid. And now it is the parents, grandparents and so many more that have to be tough at the worst possible time. On the worst possible day. But, that don't have to be tough by themselves. We are here as a community and don't forget it.
My family misses Tyler and we hope our happy memories of him allow you to think about the happy moments that you had with him through much of his life.
Love,
